There are a handful of crucial skills the seamster needs to know before buying their first commercial patterns, the most important being simply selecting the correct size. Sewing pattern instructions assume the sewer has a comprehensive sewing vocabulary and communicate the steps in an "odd minimalist poem".

In this class we discuss pattern terminology and what the information on and in the pattern envelope means, such as measurements and sizing, fabric suggestions and requirements, notions, fabric layout and a review of pattern markings and directions. This class is intended for those who have not sewn with a patterns purchased from a fabric store and will enable you to achieve greater success in early sewing projects by avoiding many common mistakes.
