How does the Sewing Studio work?

PDX Seamsters is housed in the custom sewing and costume design workshop of M-Horton. Clothier Emily Horton provides access to her private workroom and equipment: "I will teach you to sew nearly anything you would like, I encourage you to gather a friend or two and learn to sew!"

How do I sign up?

Please check the Studio Calendar for class offerings and Open Studio times. Private Lessons are available by appointment at all other times. We are able to accept credit/debit/paypal online, and cash/check in-studio. Email us at sewingstudio@pdxseamsters.com with your name, phone number, desired dates and times, how many in your group and what you want to learn. Online discounts for advance purchase of Open Studio and Private Lessons available. Please see cancellation policy below for more information.

How many people can fit in the studio?

Our new workspace is flexible -- we are usually setup to accommodate ten people plus instructor and teaching assistant. Please let us know if you would like to have a larger group in the studio!

Can I bring my own machine?

Most definitely! If it’s your first time here, we’ll let you know if we think it needs to be cleaned and / or serviced. Please remember to bring the cord & foot pedal, any extra bobbins or feet that might be needed, and your manual if you have it.

What do I need to bring:

The workroom is fully stocked with scissors, pins, pencils, rulers, scrap fabric, etc.. However you will need to bring any fabrics, threads, notions, etc, that are specific to your project.

How do I know if I have the skills:

Take a sewing class! We can teach all skill levels to sew, please let us know in advance of any questions or concerns you have by emailing sewingstudio@pdxseamsters.com

Cancellation Policy:

No refunds on deposits, 48 hour notice required to reschedule. Cancellations with more than 48 hour notice from the scheduled time will receive full credit towards future lessons, services or purchases. Cancellations with less than 24 hour notice from scheduled time will forfeit payment in full. Late arrivals and early departures are the full responsibility of the student and will not be eligible for a refund or discount.
