There have been many advancements in sewing machine production in the last 40 years, mainly involving plastics and computers, two things I consider negative in my sewing machine. The mechanics of the guts of the machine have remained very much the same series of gears, rods and cams since the lock-stitch mechanism was worked out 150 years ago. There is a sweet spot in the manufacturing of sewing machines between the 1930's and the 1960's where technology and engineering were excellent but the incorporation of plastics into the manufacturing are not yet the norm.

These are the machines we focus on - all metal gears, metal bodies and strong motors that perform well at high and low speeds.
