We are TOTALLY PSYCHED to be bringing bra making back! You will learn to draft your own bra pattern and be guided through the fitting process, once adjusted this pattern will serve you for years to come!

We will cover all construction techniques in the mock up giving ample time to practice. Please bring pictures, drawings, inspiration and ideas for your bra to the first class, we will generate individual materials lists for each bra. Materials for mock up and bra hardware are included in the materials fee.
Bra making uses a 1/4 inch seam allowance and includes sewing curves and delicate knits. If you are unsure about your skills consider taking "Sewing With Knits" first.
Week 1: Introductions, measurements, pattern drafting, cup test- Homework Cut out mockup
Week 2: Start mockup of bra in test fabric- demo techniques- Homework Work on mockup
Week 3: Continue mock up, technique demos- fit mockups
Week 4: Start final bra construction- Homework work on bra
Week 5: Continue bra construction- Homework work on bra
Week 6: Finish bra construction

Please arrive to class with your fabric pre-shrunk!

It is important to pre-shrink your fabric FIRST so your project will maintain it's size after laundering.

The rule of thumb is to pretreat the fabric in the fashion you would launder the garment. EX: dry clean silk for a dress you intend to dry clean

Corset Making
Essential drafting and construction techniques
Wednesdays starting September 15th from 5-9pm

Journey-woman Melody Rossiter of outerunderthings.com leads a six week course in the essential design and construction techniques of corset making.

We will focus on drafting and building a Custom Corset Pattern using late Victorian (1860-1900) construction techniques.
Sewing Machine Maintenance Seminar
Comprehensive techniques for self-sufficiency

Our resident repairman will discuss with you proper care and cleaning of your machine, preventative maintenance as well as what to look for when purchasing a new or used sewing machine.

Learn basic maintenance and trouble-shooting, as well as an overview of textiles, sewing machines and their technologies. You will learn how to choose the right material and select proper needles, thread, feet and accessories for your projects.

Practice the fundamentals of altering paper patterns to your measurements before constructing a mock-up of your perfect pants. One-on-one fitting assures properly fitted pants and a pattern you will use again and again.

Fundamentals of making a dress shirt

Bring the pattern of your choice, some drawings for your yolk and cuff and your fabric choices to the first class. We're going to be on a wild bucking ride of applique, plackets, facings, collars and cuffs (we can even add a loop for your lasso!).
