Want your pants to fit? By learning a few simple alterations you can open up the world of garment reuse and fashion independence! In this class we combine technical skill and rule breaking to foster creativity and learn how to hem pants, adjust side seams for fit, add darts or elastic, adjust the armcye, insert a gusset and techniques for refashioning garments. This course is as varied as the garments brought to class, encouraging Seamsters to come back with new alterations time and again!

This is an ongoing project class offered regularly to aid Seamsters as they learn by working on their own projects. Sign up for one or more sessions and bring us your questions in progress!

Bring in some basic alterations and thrift store finds and leave with fitted clothes plus skills and ideas to inspire! A selection of altered and refashioned garments will be on hand for you to consider.

Bloomers!

Not just your grandmothers underwear! This class is perfect for a beginner or intermediate seamster who wants to learn to make pants, boxer shorts or costume basics. Bloomers will feature either elastic or drawstring waistband in a fold over casing, an optional applied casing to install ruffle as well as a review of ideas and techniques for applying embellishments.
Triple Zipper

Learn to sew a Lapped, Fly Front and Invisible zipper in one evening! In a combination of demonstrations and sample sewing students will review the steps required for intimidating, yet basic zipper applications. With the guidance of our instructors the multiple step process will be demystified!

You will leave class with sewn samples and detailed instructions for all three zipper techniques.
Circle Skirt

Create a full circle skirt for your length and waist measurements! Learn how to measure and draft a circle skirt of any length, as well as hemming around a skirt on a curve or adding a ruffle!

This class will teach you to do basic circular drafting, attached waistband and curved hemming techniques.
Messenger Bags

Perfect for a beginner this fully lined messenger bag comes complete with 3 section patch pocket and button closure. This is a fast and easy project that you will be able to repeat after the class and is perfect for anyone interested in learning how to make bags and accessories. We will show you how to repurpose a belt into a self-adjusting bag strap as well!
Recycled Booty Shorts

Look fabulous and fly when home or at the party! - Learn different styles, get an introduction to working with patterns, using a serger, creating a fold over casing in knits and apply some fold over elastic.

We will help you create a pattern to take home with you and re-use for years to come.
Rectangle Skirt

Create an adorable, comfortable knee-length skirt using just 2 yards of fabric! Made to your measurements, this skirt features a gathered waist and a single layer of ruffle. This class includes the use of our Overlock Surgers to create a washable garment.

You will learn how to create a half elastic waistband as well as attractive hemming techniques and various methods of ruffling.
Cupcake Petticoat

Learn how to draft and construct a Cupcake Petticoat , a knee length, bell-shaped petticoat with a triple ruffled underskirt, and two full double tiered outer skirts to give great poof under full skirts, or to be worn alone! This petticoat will supply serious poof!

In this class we will teach you common methods of attaching a ruffle to create a tier, as well as how to set in a waistband with a fold over casing.
Swimsuit

Sewing swimwear can be fun and easy with a little help from our master instructors.

Make a bikini or one piece, you will learn to alter an existing pattern into your own unique swimsuit and have a pattern to take with you! Learn different styles, get an introduction to working with patterns, using a serger, creating a fold over casing in knits and applying elastic.
Underwear

It's fast and fun to make as well as a great way to learn to sew with knits. - Made from an old t-shirt or the newest high tech sport fabric these are sure to be a unique and fun addition to your wardrobe.

We will help you create a pattern to take home with you and re-use for years to come.
Knit Skirt

Versatile and fast to sew up, you will leave with a copy of the pattern and the skills to make again on your own. We provide the pattern graded to 4 sizes and you will have the opportunity to trace and alter the pattern before cutting your fabric.

This is a fast and easy project that you will be able to repeat after the class.
