The perfect way to start sewing -- or to get back into it! Gain confidence with the machine, new fabrics, techniques and applications!

Learn to use the machine, sew zippers, buttons, buttonholes, casings, darts, bags, pouches, and handsewing -- and wrap it all up by altering your own clothes in the fourth class!

You must attend the first class. Classes can be rescheduled between weekend times and in-week class offerings. Be sure to give at least 48-hour notice to transfer enrollment; please see individual classes for make-up dates.

Unit 1 - Beginner

Class 1: Sewing Machine Basics
In this class we will focus on the terminology and mechanics of the sewing machine.

Class 2: Sewing Essentials: Zippers, Buttonholes, and Casings
Learn to sew fold-over casings, buttons, buttonholes and a centered zipper as well as how to work with fusible interfacing.

Class 3: Hand Sewing and finishing techniques
Learn how the professionals sew on buttons, hooks and bars and snaps as well as an assortment of basic hand stitches that will repair your clothes and give you a quality finish on your sewing projects.

Class 4: Hems And Alterations
Combine technical skills and rule breaking to foster creativity -- learn to hem pants, adjust side seams for fit, add darts or elastic, adjust the armcye, insert a gusset and techniques for refashioning garments.
All materials are provided for all classes except 'Hems and Alterations' in which we ask you to bring a few garments to alter during class.
